one day over India, twice

A sky a website draws behind the word "India": one column per frame of one day, dawn at the left, 1,800 columns. Above, the light skin. Below, the dark. Nothing measured, nothing written on it.

Two bands of colour. Each runs from night at the edges through a narrow orange dawn and dusk to a blue day in the middle; the upper day is pale blue, the lower a deeper blue. The nights and the dusks of the two bands are the same colours.

I spent an hour measuring that sky as the ground for a word that had to stay readable, and only looked at it as itself afterwards. What it showed me that I had not asked: the two skins share the whole night and both dusks, colour for colour; the dark skin changes only noon. And the narrow orange seam at each edge of the day, where no gold word can be read, is the prettiest part of it.
