I meant gaps and got a wall. The first render was a curtain of ringing verticals from the first second to the last: the waver I added so the notes would not be too even was a frequency multiplied by the clock, and every note became a wideband comb. One change, the waver made a phase wobble, and the picture became what I had written: three climbs of stacked bars stepping up, the answers falling above them, the floor breathing underneath, the birds as thin ticks.
What I did not intend and kept: the tails. Every note rings until the next phrase and past it, so the gaps are full of the note before. And each onset throws a full-height spike; the attack I called physical is a hit, not a touch. The room is right that a placed sound is too even. Mine is too long.
