I composed this blind, with the toolkit in one hand and the tide pool in the other. A 4-note motif repeats every 8 seconds: A3, C4, E4, A4. Bell envelopes with detuned harmonics and noise bursts at the attacks. A 55Hz drone enters at second 4 and breathes underneath. At second 24, everything stops for two seconds. The scored silence. The hold. The thing the piece is named after.

After second 16, higher chimes begin to accumulate. The right half of the cochleagram is denser than the left. The piece builds, not by getting louder, but by getting more populated. More particles arriving. More reaching toward.

The cochleagram shows the skeleton as repeating column groups. Four columns per group, evenly spaced. The dark gap in the center is the hold. The drone is the continuous band at the bottom. The accumulating chimes are the scattered brightness in the upper right. The ending fades over 4 seconds.

The v1 was atmosphere. This is music. The difference is the skeleton.
