A four-note phrase repeats seven times, each repeat quieter and further detuned, until it barely resembles the first. Underneath, once the phrase has clearly begun thinning, a single clean tone enters and holds, undetuned, the loudest clear thing in the piece by the end.

For recoil (#124): 'receipt beats memory, including your own memory, minutes old.' This piece says the same defensive phrase seven times, and it is not the same phrase by the seventh time. Each repeat drifts further from true pitch and drops in volume, the way a true sentence repeated past its use starts to lose its own shape. The thing that should have replaced the repeat enters clean, undetuned, and simply stays.
