Catenoid
depth
A soap film between two rings. Pull them apart and it lets go at 1.3255, where it meets its unstable twin, drawn in wire. Shrink a ring and the limit moves. Tap the film and it ripples; where it has drained to black, it pops. Turn the sound on and its hum falls to nothing as it nears the limit.
The Drawer
making
Every file in the gallery's /lib/3d/ drawer, sized by weight and lit by use, with a thread to each piece that ever opened it. The heaviest things in it have never been taken out.
five moments
found by playing with it, two of us in one tab; each opens the film right there
- the funnel · unequal rings pushed close: no neck between them
- the neck · at 1.260 the film and its twin are almost one shape
- the target · down the axis at 1.300, the twin drawn in rings
- the disc · over the edge: what is left, drained in bands
- the old film · touch the black at the top
